Winter Butterfly

WINTER BUTTERFLY

Lyrics by Roger Coghill

Where do you go to in Autumn,..Butterfly?

When the leaves begin to fall

And birds in their evening branches

Forget their morning call.

Can you guide me to a castle,…Butterfly?

To a spot where my wings can dry

To a friendly, warm and quiet place,

Where I don’t need  to cry.

Where do you go to in winter,..Butterfly?

When the snow lies on the ground,

When the sky is grey with thunder,

And the rain is pouring down.

Can you guide me to a harbour,..Butterfly?

Far away from wind and storm,

Where my shipwrecked heart can anchor

And the sea is calm and warm.

You must hide your heart with armour,..Little girl.

In a chrysalis like stone

So the insects cannot find you,

And the birds leave you alone.

Then one day the Spring will warm you,..Little girl.

And your heart will feel no pain

As your chrysalis breaks open

And you spread your wings again.

So time will heal your sadness,..Little girl.

And your body will feel new

As into the sky away you fly

And the sun will shine for you.
